Apartment

Geta-Wooden Clog Screened walls and Tatami mats on floor

Futon Toilet
I stayed in a Japanese apartment - the furnishings were very different. Instead of a bed, I slept on a 'Futon' on the floor. The toilet facility was a squatter. All the furnishings were low on the floor and the floors were covered with 'Tatami' Mats. I soon learned that 'Surippa' was a house slipper which you wore indoors. You take your shoes off when entering your apartment or house and put on the soft-heeled slippers. When walking outdoors, you change to the 'Geta' or wooden clogs as you see on the old Japanese man.
