The Sphinx, a lion couchant with king's head is cut out of solid rock. The damage you can see on it dates from the Mamhukes, who used it as a target for their shooting practie. Between the paws there is a small alter.The Sphinx and Pyranids of Giza remain through the ages to lure and mystify virtually all visitors to Egypt.
